Sharpstone is a family run business with extensive knowledge of Quartz Worktops, Granite Worktops and Marble Worktops. Sharpstone have been supplying and installing luxury worktops for many years.
There is no denying that the heart of any home is the kitchen, but all too often we end up with an off the shelf design from a local DIY store or kitchen manufacturer. Often there is nothing wrong with these kitchen designs, but sadly the quality of work surface can let the rest of the kitchen down.
Sometimes we see top quality kitchen units, some bespoke, that cost a small fortune to buy, in a kitchen with mass produced worktops. The home owners just want a quality work top that will compliment the high quality of the rest of their kitchen. Sometimes, they may have a mediocre kitchen and a high quality granite, quartz or marble work surface is all that is needed to really raise the profile of their existing kitchen.
Often people think that a kitchen that came with a wooden block work top will look wrong with stone, but this is simply not true. Not only will the kitchen look amazing in granite, quartz or marble, it will no longer require the care that wood block kitchen worktops require.
Whatever the case may be, we can help. We specialise in granite, marble and quartz work surfaces for kitchens. It really can make a world of difference to any home to have the look of a natural stone product in the kitchen, and although quartz is not strictly a natural stone product, it does have the appearance of such.
Our work surfaces are robust, long lasting and are easy to keep clean, particularly if the granite or marble is properly sealed to maintain its resistance to staining.
A little Stevenage history
Stevenage lies near the line of the Roman road from Verulamium to Baldock. Some Romano-British remains were discovered during the building of the New Town, and a hoard of 2,000 silver Roman coins was discovered in 1986 during new house building in the Chells Manor area. The most substantial evidence of activity from Roman times is Six Hills, six tumuli by the side of the old Great North Road, presumably the burial places of a local family.
In 1558 Thomas Alleyne, a rector of the town, founded a free grammar school for boys, Alleynes Grammar School, which, despite becoming a boys comprehensive school in 1967, had an unbroken existence until 1989 when it merged with Stevenage Girls School to become the Thomas Alleyne School. The school, which has been since 1989 a mixed comprehensive school and is now an Academy as of 2013, still exists on its original site at the north end of the High Street. It was intended to move the school to Great Ashby, but the Coalition government of 2010-15 proposed scrapping the move owing to budget cuts.

Grooves for drainers for your Stevenage kitchen
We are all familiar with the standard pattern that sink drainers have. Even something as simple as that can add to the overall aesthetic of your quartz, granite or marble worktop, thus giving you a look that will compliment any kitchen design. These patterns are crafted into the worktop itself and the patterns we offer are:
