This Patagonia Quartzite media wall surround showcases one of the most extraordinary qualities found in natural stone: the way it comes alive with light.
Patagonia is a natural quartzite filled with dramatic mineral movement, crystalline pockets and areas of natural translucency. Even on its own, it’s a striking stone with a real sense of drama and depth.
Introduce carefully positioned LED backlighting, though, and it becomes something else entirely.
When lit from behind, light travels through the crystal-rich sections of the slab, revealing colour, texture and detail that simply isn’t visible under normal lighting. It’s almost like looking into the stone rather than at it.
By day, the surround is a beautiful natural feature. In the evening, with the lighting on, it becomes the glowing centrepiece of the room.
Backlighting a stone like Patagonia takes care at every stage. Slab selection is key, as the translucent areas need to sit exactly where the light will show them off best. From there, our team templated, fabricated and installed the surround with the precision needed to frame the medial wall perfectly and let the stone do the talking.
To complete the space, we also created a bespoke table, carrying the character of the stone through the room and tying the whole design together.
