We are delighted to share this recently completed project in Bishop’s Stortford featuring the remarkable Portinari Quartzite. From the outset, this installation carried a unique narrative. Our client, a passionate art lover, selected this stone having been drawn to its movement and colour palette, reminiscent of Vincent van Gogh’s Iconic Starry Night. The swirling greys, silver tones, and flowing white veining echo the painting’s roiling night sky, where chromatic blues and luminous forms create depth, drama and emotion. We love design stories like this, where a surface becomes more than a material and instead forms the foundation of a vision.
Portinari Quartzite truly feels like Mother Nature’s artwork. It is a high-quality, exotic natural stone known for its sleek yet expressive character. The polished finish enhances the crystalline structure, allowing intricate patterns and natural beauty to reveal themselves under changing light.
In this kitchen, the stone has been used confidently and with intention. The island features a dramatic waterfall end that allows the veining to cascade vertically, showcasing the continuity of the slab. The main run is complemented by a full splashback, reinforcing the stone’s presence. The flush-mounted BORA hob and extractor have been seamlessly integrated into the island, preserving clean lines and ensuring the surface remains uninterrupted. The stone is also seen on the end panel of the main kitchen run.
This whole kitchen has been brought together with careful planning, adding a statement of individuality and artistry.
