Caring For Your New Quartz Worktop

Caring For Your New Quartz Worktop

Quartz is a luxuriously beautiful, polished material that is ideal to use as a kitchen worktop. It has a high level of durability and is non-porous, which makes it an exceptionally good choice for a kitchen worktop. Quartz is excellent for a kitchen because of the use of a strong polymer resin that grants a high level of protection from stains, scratches and impact damage.

However, with that said, it is not completely resistant to certain types of damage. Adequate care and maintenance are essential to make sure that your quartz worktop does not get scratched or stained.

Daily Cleaning

Quartz does not require any demanding cleaning routine apart from wiping up any spills as soon as they happen, the quicker the better. A soft coarse cleaner can be used carefully for more stubborn dried marks. This is where quartz has an advantage of it being one of the most maintenance-free kitchen worktops.

For cleaning and wiping of any spills, it is recommended that you use a traditional non-abrasive microfibre towel. Using a microfibre towel will leave a shine on the quartz polished worktop, also, their absorbent ability means they are not going to leave behind watermark stains.

Simply dipping the microfibre towel in warm soapy water is enough to start cleaning with, nothing fancy is required. Ensuring that this method is use regularly is a safe way to make sure your quartz worktop is constantly clean and protected from damage.

General Tips

Here are general tips to keep in mind to keep your quartz worktop in excellent condition throughout its lifespan.

• Remember to use water in the first occurrence of any cleaning
• Keep harsh chemicals such as bleach and chlorine off your worktop as they can cause more damage and ruin the top polished layer
• Do your best to clean any spills right away – the longer any spillage is left, the more chance of staining can happen
• Ensure that your quartz worktop is dust and debris free, this will minimise any potential risk of introducing scratches
• Avoid placing hot cooking equipment such as pans and trays directly onto your quartz worktop as this can cause permanent damage
• Do not use knives on your quartz worktop.

Heavy-Duty & Deep Cleaning

Assuming that you have been following the general tips laid out above, you should not need to worry about any heavy-duty and deep cleaning. Quartz is generally more resilient to staining than other worktop materials such as granite and marble. Saying that, we all know that accidents happen. If somehow you end up staining your worktop and the above tips are not helping then there are some options you have left.

In the vast majority of cases, wiping your worktop with a warm, wet microfiber towel then buffing with a dry cloth is enough to remove stains. In some cases, a specialised cleaner may be required, just remember to not use any harsh chemicals as they can make the situation worse.

A cleaner that we know works well on all of our quartz worktops is Bar Keepers Friend.
