2024 Home Trends - Dramatic Stone

We adore keeping an eye on what designers are doing and seeing how we can help our customers find on trend stones that will be in style for years to come. We decided to have a look at the upcoming trends and we recently spoke about using natural stone within the home. This time, we’re going to look at Dramatic Stone and how it can fit into next years trends.

2024 is edging ever nearer and this may be the last time we look at upcoming trends! The year has flown by but these kitchen trends are here to stay for a while.

This month we’re looking at adding a touch of the dramatics to your kitchen, bathroom or, quite frankly, any room you fancy. 2024 is the year for natural elements but also making a statement. Including stone in your interiors is huge for 2024 but it doesn’t need to be limited to worktops and it doesn’t need to be natural either. There are so many ranges of artificial stone that mimic the opulence of marble, granite and quartzite but without the upkeep. This means you can achieve incredible visuals no matter the budget.

So let’s dive in to the different options we have available here at Sharpstone and how we can elevate your interiors next year.

Quartz is a man-made stone that mainly consists of finely crushed natural stone mixed with resin. These engineered slabs come in a wide range of colours and sizes and can give the illusion of natural stone without the price-tag. Quartz is a great choice for busy family homes; hard-wearing and stain resistant. It really is a great choice and there are plenty of dramatic options.

The range of colours is getting bigger by the day; from simple marble inspired colours to impactful blacks with thick veins.

If a marbled look isn’t for you then why not consider a granite style Quartz instead. Burlington is an impactful stone that gives the illusion of natural stone with its blue and grey swirls.

Porcelain is a newer slab to the market. Having been available as tiles for many years, companies are now creating larger slabs to compete with Quartz. These slabs are durable, come in a range of thickness’s and are resistant to hot and cold temperatures.

They aren’t just used for worktops though. We have recently finished renovating our own office bathroom and take a look at the result.

Porcelain slabs are printed so they can easily be bookmatched to create that mirror image. Using stone as a feature wall is an easy way to incorporate that dramatic look that is so sought after in 2024. Porcelain is a great choice for this kind of project due to the availability of thinner slabs. The thinner they are, the lighter they are so it’s much easier to lift and fit to a wall.

If we’re talking dramatic stones, there is one type that is unrivalled. Semi-Translucent stones such as Onyx are the most impressive when it comes to drama. These beautiful examples of nature come in a variation of colours from white, blue and even pink. Stunning in their own right, with subtle veins and crystals that catch the light. But we can do something with them that is extra special.

With the help from an electrician and some LEDs, we have sensational, light-up works of art. These are commonly used as bar fronts and inserts but we have created some other amazing features that are sure to catch people’s eye. How about a full dining table in Cristalos? Or an entire Onyx kitchen island?

Natural stones offer something that Quartz or Porcelain can’t achieve. Though the process of creating slabs is getting more advanced, there’s something that can’t be replicated. That being the individuality of each stone. Slabs can be cut from the same block but each will have a slightly different look due to the veining throughout. A stone such as Fusion Black Granite contains individual crystals that you can look at for hours; noticing different colours all the time.

The appealing features of natural stone are incomparable but there is a higher cost involved as well as more meticulous after care. Natural stone can be quite fragile so more care needs to be considered in all aspects of fabrication, fitting and living with it after being installed. As long as these considerations are considered, there’s no reason why it won’t last for many years and always look as good as the day it was fitted.
